The typical Spanish mountain town of Cómpeta is located in the Axarquia region in the southern region of Andalusia, hidden at the end of an elongated valley and far away from mass tourism. The 'white village' has a huge nature park with the impressive Tejada and Almijara mountain ranges as its backyard.

Spring, autumn and winter in particular are ideal times of year for walking with daytime temperatures of 16-23 degrees. In this region the sun shines no less than 325 days a year.

The landscape of Axarquia has a lot to offer: wooded mountains that alternate with open terrain and orchards growing olives, almonds and other tropical fruits.

We are a family of hiking enthusiasts. We provide all local transport to the walking tours and one of us will accompany you on all walks.

The accommodation is in Competa. Restaurants, bars, the supermarket and other shops are right around the corner!

The town of Cómpeta has no fewer than 20 restaurants. Our local representation ensures that a nice large table is reserved every evening for the evening meal; preferably always in a different restaurant. Our daily communal evening meal is therefore arranged and included in the travel price.

Route

from gently sloping to steeply rising, height differences from 250 to 380 meters. Every day there is a guided morning and afternoon walk. During the morning walk we are on the road for 3 to 4 hours (from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM or 2:00 PM). If you do not join the afternoon walk, you have the rest of the day at leisure until dinner. If you take the afternoon walk, you will be on the road 2 to 2.5 hours longer every day (until about 5 p.m.). Every day at the end of the morning walk you can decide whether you want to continue walking or return to Cómpeta. Approximately 8 to 16 km are covered per walking day, in 3 to 7 hours. The walks, often on goat and donkey paths, go to just over 1000 meters. Cómpeta itself is located at over 600 meters.

Day 1
Outward journey
Upon arrival, one or two taxi buses will be ready to take us to Cómpeta, located approximately 70 km from the airport. Depending on the arrival time, a guided village walk with a visit to the local museum is possible. We get to know each other better during the first dinner that is served for us in a cozy restaurant in the village.

Day 2

Cómpeta - Canillas - Archez - Cómpeta (approx. 7 km or 13.5 km)
From Cómpeta we take a circular walk along beautiful paths with avocado, orange and almond plantations. Via a Roman path and the mill route we pass the villages of Canillas and Archez (approx. 7 km, 2.5 hours, height difference 180 meters). In the afternoon we continue our walk through the nature park with special views and eventually return to Cómpeta (approx. 6 km, 3 hours, height difference 300 meters).

Day 3

In the morning we have a transfer to Salares. From here we make a circular walk through an old holm oak forest and the natural park (approx. 7.5 km, 3 hours, height difference 280 meters). Then we continue after the Roman bridge and then we make a circular walk along the Rio Cajula after which we return to the starting point (approx. 9 km, 3 hours, height difference 320 meters).

Day 4

We are taken to Fabrica de la Luz in Canillas de Albaida. There starts a walk along the river Arroyo de la Cueva del Melero, and back along a path through the forest (approx. 8 km / 3 hours, height difference 350 meters). The afternoon hike then continues from Fabrica de la Luz up to the Cueva del Agua cave (approx. 6 km/2 hours, height difference 340 meters).

Day 5
Day off

You can visit Malaga together with other travelers (by public transport). If you prefer an extra walk, you can walk from Cómpeta to the Mediterranean Sea and travel back by public transport. There are also plenty of walks in the immediate vicinity of Cómpeta. Our tour guide is happy to help you on your way.

Day 6

In the morning we take a circular walk from Cómpeta to Puerto del Collado and Gavilán in the natural park (approx. 10 km, 3.5 hours, height difference 380 meters). After returning to Cómpeta we walk from the village through a nature reserve and olive groves. Via an Acequia we arrive at the chapel of Santa Ana and we walk back to the accommodation via avocado and orange plantations (approx. 6 km, 2.5 hours, height difference 380 meters).

Day 7

Transfer by Land Rover to Puerto del Collado for a beautiful circular walk to Loma del Daire and Venta Pradillos, and back via the mule route (approx. 14 km, 4.5 hours, height difference 240 meters). Afternoon walkers can choose to walk back to Competa.

Day 8
Return trip

Transfer by taxi to the airport for the flight from Malaga to Amsterdam.
