Cómpeta walking festival

The twelfth edition: September 26 to 29, 2024!

The walking festival is fully booked!

We hope you can participate again this year. The Cómpeta 4-day walking tour is the opportunity to meet old and new walking friends.

We are pleased to once again be able to offer you a varied program of walks led by experienced guides, which you can find at the bottom of this page.

Levels of the walks

Just like last year, we have 3 levels of walks (2 groups per level) for which the following maximum criteria apply:

Level 1: maximum 10 km, 4 hours (excl. breaks), max. height difference 500 meters
FULLY BOOKED
Level 2: maximum 15 km, 6 hours (excl. breaks), max. altitude difference 800 meters
Level 3: maximum 20 km, 8 hours (excl. breaks), max. altitude difference 1400 meters.

To be clear: there is no such thing as an easy walk in a hilly and mountainous region like Cómpeta. There are always height differences, heat and the paths are sometimes difficult with loose stones. Walking 10 kilometers in Cómpeta is equivalent to walking 15 kilometers in the Netherlands. In consultation with the guide, a participant can change levels daily.

Every participant who has completed the 4 days will receive a medal!

Practical information: carpool, lunch and prices

We will continue with our carpooling system on days 2 and 3, for which drivers receive a discount of €10, but we will also provide a minibus on those days so that the cars are not overloaded. On day 1, for the safety of the participants, we will provide a shuttle bus to avoid a 1.2 kilometer stretch along the busy asphalt road to Torrox.
Johan's coffee table will be somewhere along the route for all levels on all days.

This year, on September 29, after the last walk, we will have a paella lunch on the terrace of Hotel Balcón de Cómpeta, where you can choose from an original paella (fish/meat), a fish paella or a vegetarian paella, accompanied by various salads with then dessert.

The participation prizes this year are:

€40 pp for all 4 days,
€10 discount for drivers who can take a maximum of 3 other hikers in their car on days 2 and 3,
€ 15 pp for the paella lunch on the terrace of hotel Balcón de Cómpeta on September 29 after the last walk (this price is only valid with pre-registration, if you want to book the buffet during the 4 days it costs € 20). The paella tickets are numbered and also serve as free raffle tickets for the raffle held before the medal presentation and the paella lunch.

Program Cómpeta four-day walking 2024

Donderdag 26 September start en einde in Hotel Balcón de Cómpeta

09:00 Level 3 (20 km/7 hours): Circular walk via Venta de Palma, rough path through valley to goat farm, goat path to Haza de Rila and Fuente Teja and via Casa la Mina, the crossroads below the fire station, Puerto del Collado and Cruz del Monte back to Cómpeta.

09:30 am Level 2 (13 km/4.5 hours): Circular walk via Venta de Palma, bus transfer (for safety) to goat farm, goat trail to Haza de Rila and Puerto del Collado and via Cruz del Monte back to Cómpeta.

10:00 am Level 1 (8 km / 3 hours): Linear walk via Venta de Palma, bus transfer (for safety) to goat farm, goat trail to Haza de Rila and Rio Torrox and back to the helipad + bus transfer to Cómpeta.

Coffee/tea stop with Johan for all levels at Haza de Rila where all routes pass by.

Saturday, September 28, start and finish Parque opposite Restaurante Lorena Cómpeta

09.00 am level 3 (20 km/8 hours): car share or bus transfer to the Fabrica of Canillas, circular walk via Arroyo Cueva del Melero, dirt road, Puerto Blanquillo and Puerto de Cómpeta to the peak of El Lucero, back via a partly different route to the Fabrica, Car share or bus transfer back to Cómpeta.

9 a.m. level 3 (20 km/8 hours): carpool and/or bus transfer to the Fábrica of Canillas, circular walk via Arroyo Cueva del Melero, gravel road, Puerto Blanquillo and Puerto de Cómpeta to the top of El Lucero, back via partly different route to the Fábrica, carpooling and/or bus transfer back to Cómpeta.

9:30 am level 2 (12 km/4.5 hours): carpool and/or bus transfer to the Fábrica of Canillas, circular walk via Arroyo Cueva del Melero, gravel road and footpath to the top of the Cerro Verde and footpath down to the Fábrica. Carpooling and/or bus transfer back to Cómpeta.

10am level 1 (9 km/3.5 hours), carpooling and/or bus transfer to the Fábrica of Canillas, circular walk via Arroyo Cueva del Melero, gravel road and footpath back to the Fábrica. Carpooling and/or bus transfer back to Cómpeta.

Coffee/tea stop with Johan for all levels on the gravel road halfway to Puerto Blanquillo where all routes pass.

Friday, September 27, start and finish at Parque opposite Restaurante Lorena Cómpeta

09.00 uur niveau 3 (21 km/7 uur): carpoolen en/of bustransfer naar Sedella, rondwandeling naar picknickplek, daarna verder omhoog naar het Monticara plateau, voetpad door het hoogste deel van de Saltillo kloof, afdaling naar Canillas de Aceituno en via de GR 249 en het laagste deel van de Saltillo kloof met de hangbrug terug naar Sedella. Carpoolen en/of bustransfer terug naar Cómpeta.

09.30 uur niveau 2 (14 km/4,5 uur): carpoolen en/of bustransfer naar Sedella, rondwandeling naar picknickplek, daarna naar het uitzichtpunt el Pozuelo en terug via het begin van de Rio de Puente naar Sedella. Carpoolen en/of bustransfer terug naar Cómpeta.

10.00 uur niveau 1 (9 km/3,5 uur): carpoolen en/of bustransfer naar Sedella, rondwandeling naar picknickplek, daarna via het begin van de Rio de Puente terug naar Sedella. Carpoolen en/of bustransfer terug naar Cómpeta.

Koffie/thee stop met Johan bij de picknickplek boven Sedella waar alle routes langs komen.

Sunday, September 29, start and end at Hotel Balcón de Cómpeta

8:30 am level 3 (17 km/6 hours), circular walk to Puerto del Collado, Loma del Daire and

Los Pradillos.

9:30 am level 2 (14 km/5 hours), circular walk to Puerto del Collado and back via Venta Maria Dolores.

10.30 am level 1 (9.5 km/4 hours), circular walk to Puerto del Collado and back via Loma Gaviara.

Coffee/tea stop with Johan for all levels at Puerto del Collado.
2 p.m. on the pool terrace of Hotel Balcón de Cómpeta bar opens.

3 p.m. on the pool terrace of Hotel Balcón de Cómpeta lottery, presentation of medals and paella lunch (3 choices: original paella (fish/meat), fish paella or vegetarian paella).
