As highest mountains in southern Europe, trekking the Sierra Nevada can be dangerous for the non experienced walker. The weather in these mountains can quickly change and the weather on one side of the mountains can be quite different of that on the other side. But when the risks are carefully considered, there is no reason to avoid these mountains, on the contrary. Here fantastic walking can be done! The first two days we will have introductory walks from the mountain village Capileira (1436 m), then we really go into the mountains, overnight 2x in the Refugio Poqueira (2500 m) and then walk to the ski village Pradollano (2100 m) on the other side of the mountain range.

We offer trekking the Sierra Nevada only in the months of July and August. Then the mountains are largely snowfree, the chance of bad weather in those months is minimal and even though it is very hot in the rest of Spain, here it is generally pleasant walking weather because of the high altitudes. Both the Mulhacen as the Veleta can be reached without tools, so it is mountainwalking and not mountainclimbing.
