Safari by Landrover

 

Upon request we offer an unequalled day Landrover tour from Cómpeta into the Natural Park. With groups of a minimum of 3 persons and a maximum of 8. In the morning we first drive to an old Moorish fortress on top of the mountain Ben Tomiz. Then we drive through steep trails further into the mountains; after approximately 1½ hours, we arrive at an altitude of 1.500 meters on the edge of the massif. We stop at a plain called Tajos de la Chapa from where there are fine views of local and more distant surroundings. To the north, we look deep into the province of Granada; in the east, we see the Sierra Nevada (Pico del Veleta with an altitude of 3.394 meters); and when the skies are clear, we can see Africa (the Rif mountains in Morocco) from a distance of 160 kilometers in the south and the coastal area up to Gibraltar in the west. Closer by, we can see the entire Axarquia area with its numerous ‘pueblos blancos’ and in the natural park, the ‘cantera de marmol’ (marble quarry).

After this stop, we drive on a track along the edge of the massif in a westerly direction. We pass the Puerto de Santiago and arrive at an altitude of 1.600 meters at the Llanadas de Sedella. The driver of the Landrover will provide an extensive picnic lunch. At the end of the afternoon we will drive back to Cómpeta. This day excursion is a unique and unforgettable experience.
